Those of you using JAWS 5 or later may have noticed that with the Xcalibor scheme, JAWS has begun identifying a LOT of text, including text that is not hyperlinked, as being "clickable." Many of you, including myself, may happen to find this annoying. Your two options for eliminating this problem are:

Those of you experiencing difficulty navigating LJ may want to change your site scheme. Your site shceme is the interface you use to interact with the site. There are three different schemes: Xcolibur, Lynx and Dystopia. Xcolibur is the default scheme that is used when you first crate your account, and also the most modern. It is, in my opinion, the least screen reader-friendly for the reasons I outlined above. Lynx is a very simple scheme that is easy to navigate, but has many of Xcolibur's features removed, i.e. the search box that allows you to look up users, E-mail addresses and the like. You can always get to these features using the site map. Once you get familiar with the site, I recommend switching to Lynx as it is a much cleaner interface. Finally, dystopia combines the best of both worlds. It is the original layout that was used for LiveJournal, preserved for the people who just can't let go. It has the same features as Xcolibur, but as with traditional websites, all the repeating navigation information is displayed at the top of the page, and the new information is displayed at the bottom. This scheme requires you to skip past all of the repeating text at the top before you get to the text you want, so therefore it is not as convenient for screen reader users. If you are experiencing problems with the site, try chaging your scheme and see if that makes it easier to navigate. To do so, go to http://www.livejournal.com/manage/siteopts.bml. Good luck.
